Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the mother of Peter, an educator and an actor and playwright who is a top performer. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. Anna remembers certain memories she had of her childhood, like seeing her mother work during play rehearsals. Silk played a role as a young girl in a variety of commercials. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Arts from St. Thomas University in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas produced two of its first productions, Seven Menus, and The Kitchen. Silk made the move to Toronto to further her acting career in November 1999. She then, over the following decade relocated in the following decade to Los Angeles, California. Seth Cooperman is her future husband, who she first met during her time in Los Angeles at an Actors' workshop, in 2007. They got married at the civil ceremony on the 10th of December 2009 following their engagement. In Fredericton the 10th of April in 2011, after her change to Judaism the couple renewed their vows at an Jewish wedding ceremony.
